Saturday December 27, 2003:
Anita Stroud, here in our park attended our computer group meeting this
morning and showed us a number of pictures of flowers and butterflies that she
has taken here in the park. She has some very beautiful pictures. I have
included a link on the front page to her album of pictures that she has taken here

Thursday December 25, 2003:
Merry Christmas to everyone here in the valley and back north. Today’s
weather forecast for here in the valley is 59 for a low and 74 for a high.
Saturday December 20, 2003: Last
January we had Delene a Branson entertainer perform here at the park. She will
be here again this January. If you saw her show last year and would like to see
it again or if you didn’t see her show last year but want to see it this year,
you should get your tickets early. If you are still back north and plan on
being here for the show, please call ahead to the office to reserve your
tickets. It was a sell out last year and there were no tickets at the door. The
date for this show is Wednesday, January 14th. See the link to the
January 2004 calendar on the front page for additional details for this show
and any other activities that you may be interested in.* Another activity that
is a great favorite of many winter Texans is the Rio Grande Valley Live Stock
Show at the Mercedes fair grounds. It is the 15th thru 17th.

Tuesday December 15, 2003:
Marge Sailor received a letter from Evelyn Rensink. She misses all her
friends here in the park and would like to hear from them. If any of you would
like to send her a card or letter, email me and I will send you her address. erville@elarnold.com. * It is cool here
today, the temp. in the middle 60’s.
Thursday December 11, 2003: I
received news today that Lowell Hauenstein broke his shoulder back in October
then his hip in November. Lowell has been a winter resident here in the park
for many years, he really loved coming down and playing cards. It would nice if
those of us who know him would send him a card. If you need his address email
me and I will send it to you.
Wednesday December 10, 2003: Activities
are in full swing, first dance of the season at the hall last night. * Nights
have been cool, upper 40’s and 50’s, with days warming up nicely. Several in
the park have gone north already to spend Christmas with their families. * If
any of you have news that you would like to share, be sure and let me know. If
you are here in the park just get me a note, if elsewhere just email me at erville@elarnold.com.
Thursday December 4, 2003: Just returned today from a 2
week trip back north for Thanksgiving with our daughter and her family + friends.
We had a great trip, nice to see many of our friends. Since we just got back I
don’t have much park news. Looks like many more of our winter friends have
arrived. I see that Joe Szabo has added photos taken at the Thanksgiving Dinner

). You may wish to take a look at them. I have added Sonja Manley to the December birthday list.
Tueday November 18, 2003: Was Warm
today, front moved thru this evening, temperature in the 60’s. * There is a
card in the hall for Glen Sather who is in the hospital.
Friday November 14, 2003: Received 2.
Inch of rain today. * I have a message board associated with this site where
you may leave any message you wish. If you wish anyone to send you a personal
message in reply to your post be sure that you fill out the email address
section of the form when you post your message. All of you feel free to use the
message board. * The park wide rummage sale is at the Hall tomorrow morning. *
I have a copy of the activity calendars posted on this web site, there are
links on the front page. The December calendar is already up. * I have a list
of our park residents, (The ones that furnished their names for the park
directory this last winter) posted on this web site. I have not posted a link
to it, so it is not available to the public. If any of our former or present
park family wish to be able to access it just send me an email with your email
address and I will send the URL so that you can access it with your computer.
Thursday November 13, 2003: We received
7. of an inch of rain this morning. * There was a card in the hall today for
Howard Brammel who is in the hospital. * They played bingo at the hall for the
first time this season. * Mel and Joyce Wiggers are doing the tours this
season. So if you are interested in going on a tour get in touch with them. * I
would sure like to have some reporters for articles to post on this page. Any
one interested please get in touch with me.
Wednesday November 12, 2003: Lots Sunshine, little wind, nice weather. * The park is sure
filling up, many of our winter friends have arrived, and the activities are all
beginning. We had our Veterans Day parade yesterday. The welcome back party

received an email from Dean & Mavis Kranz, they will be down in January. *
If anyone has news that they think would be of interest to our Encore family or
friends back north, email it to me or get it to me somehow and I will post it
here. If you would like to write an article on any of our park activities, use
your note pad or about any word processor and either email it to me, or if you
are here in the park, put on a disk and get it to me.
Thursday November 6, 2003:
Beautiful
weather. * Our bowlers started bowling at Creasy Bowl in Harlingen today. More
of our season activities are starting each day. Cliff Stewart is here and has
the pizza night set up for the 18th of this month, as there is a
parade and welcome back party for the 11th.
Tuesday November 4, 2003:
They
are busy paving the streets, don’t know how many of them will do. * Weather is
warm little wind, no rain. * The following was posted on the message board by

Ruth Ralya phoned me on Sunday to tell us that her husband Earl had passed away
on October 17th at the age of 84 yrs. Grateful for having shared his life are
his wife Ruth, 4 Children, 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Anyone
wishing to send Ruth a card , her address is: 73 Autumn Ridge, Danville,
Indiana. 46122. She misses her friends in our park and I am sure she would like
to hear from you.
Saturday November 1, 2003:
Temperature
near 90 today along with high humidity. * Last night was the Halloween party at
the hall. * Two of our long time residents leave in the morning to go back to
Colorado. (Flo & Len Paquet). They sold their place last spring before they
went back to Colorado. They will be missed.
Thursday October 30, 2003: Temperature in the 80’s today, some wind. *
Cards in the hall (Lyle Schmidt has passed away) (Harry & Elaine Gusaas
have lost a son) (Donna Dunlap is having knee surgery).
Wednesday October 29, 2003: Cool
nights and warm days, little wind, last couple of days have been perfect. *
Part of the heavy equipment that they moved in to do streets with is already
gone. Don’t think they are going to do any more streets except some patching. *
More winter residents arriving each day.
Tuesday October 28, 2003: Cool last
night and this morning, 60 degrees, after sun came up it warmed up quickly. Now
at noon it is in the upper 70’s. * They have started working on the streets.

Monday October 27, 2003: The last
couple of days we have had a total of 3 inches of rain. Weather cleared today,
the sunshine was nice, and it was 50 degrees this morning when I went out after
the paper. * We have quite a few of our winter residents here now. They are
coming in fast enough now that I can’t keep track of who all are here, so will
stop listing new arrivals. * They have
brought in a backhoe and other heavy equipment. I think they are going to start
working on some of the streets.
Sunday October 26, 2003: Cool front
and rain moved thru last night. As of this morning we had over an inch and it
has continued to rain on and off all day. About 60 degrees this morning, in the
50’s this evening. * Arrivals yesterday (Don & Nancy Leadbetter), Don’t’
know if anyone came in today.
Saturday October 25, 2003:
Several new arrivals today. Nice weather.
Friday October 24, 2003: Another
Nice Day, some wind. * New arrival today (Henry & Janet Bloom)
Thursday October 23, 2003: Perfect
weather again today. * New arrival
today, Gay Witte. Another arrival was a motorhome, 40+ feet pulling an H2
Hummer.
Wednesday October 22, 2003: Another beautiful day in Paradise. New arrivals today, Stanley and Betty Diegelman. * The November Activities calendar will be out in a few days. There is a copy of it here on the web site. November 2003
Tuesday October 21, 2003: Beautiful
day today in Paradise, mild temperature, little wind. * There is a card in the
hall for Thelma Lowderman, who is recovering from surgery and for Bob Swan who
had cataract surgery yesterday. * Recent arrivals, (Bob & Shirley
Taylor)(John & Madeline Frank)(Jerome & Arlene Nagel).
Monday October 20, 2003: Quite a few
have arrived in the park the last two days. *We had several short power surges
yesterday and I lost router so I could not access the Internet. In the process of replacing it I have lost
track of who has arrived the last few days. * There are quite a few here now so
the scheduled activities are starting.
Saturday October 18, 2003: No
rain today * There was a card at the hall for Harlen Engeldinger who is
recovering from surgery. * Flo & Len Paquet arrived today.
Friday October 17, 2003: Arrivals
today, (Jim & Roz Moloney) (Ken Brown), and quite a few others that I did
not know. * No rain today.
Thursday October 16, 2003: 6.
Inch of rain last night. * Arrivals today, (Virginia Koelling). There were
several other arrivals today but I did not recognize them.
Wednesday October 15, 2003: Cool
this morning, temperature in the middle 60’s. * Arrivals today, (Cliff &
Mary Stewart) * Dried out enough today that I could mow my lawn.
Tuesday October 14, 2003: 7. inch of
rain this afternoon. There is an active flood watch until 9:00 PM. * Arrivals
today, (Muriel Lalonde) (Paul & Maxine Goshorn) (Mitch & Sharon
Massman) (Ken & Jackie Henderson) * If any of you will be arriving early or
late in the day at the park don’t forget to call the office or email me for the
gate number if you don’t already have it.
Monday October 13, 2003: 8. Inch of
rain last night * Harry and Fralick Hulse arrived today. * The 16th
thru 19th are Sand Castle Days at South Padre Island. * There has
been a lot of flooding here in the Valley. You may wish to use the links on my
web page to access the news. (Newspapers, or TV Stations)
Sunday October 12, 2003: About .3
inch of rain this morning. * No new arrivals today.
Saturday October 11, 2003: Warm
and muggy today. No rain yet but there is some thunder out now. * Don &
Arlene Strohl arrived today.
Friday October 10, 2003: Temperature near 90 today, humidity high. * Keith
and Valerie Elliott from Canada arrived to day.
Thursday October 09, 2003: No rain last night or today, mild
temperature. * No new arrivals today.
Wednesday October 08, 2003: Seven tenths of an inch of rain last night. *
No new arrivals today that I know of. * They had 8 inches of rain in Harlingen
yesterday, and a lot of flooding. * Ethel Bjorndahl and her crew decorated the
hall this morning; they are getting ready for our Halloween party on the
evening of the 31st of this month. If you can make it down you might
like to bring Halloween costumes, as they are optional for the party. Bring
finger food, your favorite card and board games.
Tuesday October 07, 2003: There were two cards at the hall, one for Bill
Neustadt who passed away, one for Nancy Lee who is recovering from surgery. * I
heard from Harry Hulse, he and Fralick will be here Thursday or Friday. * See
the message from Nancy Leadbetter on the message board for
information on the Park Directories. * We received one half inch of rain this
afternoon in a very short time. * No new arrivals in the park unless they
arrived this afternoon.
Monday, October 06, 2003: There is a card in the hall for Elmer Boike, who is
recovering from surgery. * There are a couple of new trash bins now. * No new
arrivals today. * A few raindrops when we went to the trash a while ago, not
enough to show on the streets.
Sunday, October 05, 2003: Received information this morning that Evelyn
Goss passed away Saturday. * Temperature today reached low 90’s. Had two short
showers, hardly enough to wet the streets. * Don’t think any one else arrived
in the park today. * Still no trash bins. * If any of you, or someone you know
is interested in purchasing a unit here in the park, take a look at the units for sale link that I have here on my
web page. If any of you wish to sell your unit let me know and I will take a
picture and post it in the units for sale section. (Also give me the
information that you wish to have posted with the picture). There is no charge
for this service.
Saturday, October 04, 2003: Another nice day, we had a very short shower this afternoon, just did wet the street. There was a card in the hall for Emogene Kimball who is recovering from knee surgery. * Waste management lost their contract with the city of Mercedes and has removed their dumpsters. The new company contracting with Mercedes has not delivered any trash containers yet.
This
last week Bobbie Miller, also Dot and Ben DeiSante have returned to the park.
They are the first of our winter visitors to return.
We
have not had any rain for several days, but the grass here in the park is sure
growing fast.
The
Palms were trimmed last week.
