Not much news from the park, This last week we had a little over an inch of rain. One inch of it came in one storm, thought we might get a tornado here as one was sited north of us and it sure did not look good out. We did get quite a bit of wind with a lot of stuff off the palm trees. Didn’t see any other damage.

Well, some of you had already told me I would change my mind!  Walena called me yesterday and offered me a deal I couldn't refuse. I will be working Friday & Saturdays this year. I told her I would not be there until the end of November and she said she would take me whenever she could get me.....so, you will see my smiling face in the office again this fall!

Have a safe and happy Labor Day weekend!

The hot water heater at the hall leaked and destroyed the bingo cards. Wallena says that she has ordered new cards to replace them. The palm trees have been trimmed, and they put several inches of black top on the street from the entrance to the hall and across all of the street in front of the hall. Understand that is all that they are doing this year. Dottie left in June, don't know when she will be back. We ran into Ida Whelchel at a Wal-Mart store while we were in Wichita, Kansas  in July, She seemed to be doing OK. Fran and Joe Szabo have moved to Arizona, and their place is for sale. On Saturday, August 6th, eleven Michigan Texans met at the Country Buffet in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Everyone is buzzing over the changes going on at the park. We are all hoping the park will be better than ever.

We had a nice warm sunny day, good food and even better company!

Many thanks go out to Joyce Smith and hubby for arranging the meeting. We are getting anxious to start for that friendly Texan border. It won't be long now!

Hope everyone is in good health and that all have a safe trip back to their winter home this fall.  Posted 08/07/05, Jan Major

I have attached some photos of our reunion and will give you a few details for your web site. You can pick the photos you think will look good.  We had a blast!

We met at Garden Family Restaurant in Aledo, Ill for our first reuniting. Over 60 were in attendance. We had people from seven states in attendance for the get together!

The following day, Thursday, we had our potluck at the Reynolds American Legion with more food than we could eat in two settings! 82 people attended this affair! Dick & Merlene Miller brought the bean bag equipment and several people tossed bean bags. John Hampton passed around decks of cards and some serious games of Euchre, Pitch and more were enjoyed.

News of Betty Dingleman's brain cancer was announced along with rumors of how the new administration might handle the park this coming season.

Several couples went to the riverboat to see if they could strike it rich! Harvey and Bonny Carr found out how fun nickel slots were!

Friday was a tour of the John Deere Harvester Works in East Moline, Illinois and a golf outing was planned for 8 a.m. that morning also.

Many thanks should go out to Cliff & Mary Stewart and John & Barb Hampton for all the top notch planning they did. I wished I had the names of the others that worked so hard on our annual picnic! I was proud to be a part of the gathering. Sure missed all our winter Texans that were not able to attend.

Jerry Haarhues, who was a long time resident of our park passed away Monday, June 6 2005. If you wish to send the family a card, email or call me and I will give you the families address.

On Wednesday morning, 6/01/05 we had a small amount of rain and some wind. I didn’t notice that it was exceptionally strong. But apparently there were tornados in the area. Here in the park it damaged the roof of Bob Bercaw’s park model and blew some of the awning down. The units either side of Bob’s were not damaged, and there was no other damage in the park. There was considerable damage done at other places in the valley. Click here for more news and pictures, courtesy of the Mid Valley Town Crier.

A White Christmas in the Rio Grande Valley:

This morning we awoke to a temperature of about 30 degrees and snow on the ground. The entire valley has snow, and the roads are slick. Reports are that Brownsville had not seen snow on the ground since 1895. Click here to see the pictures that I snapped this morning. (Christmas day, 2004)
